STATEMENT OF CONGRESSWOMAN CAROLYN B. MALONEY

Endorsing the Candidacy of Steve Levin for New York City Council in the 33rd District

June 5, 2009

I am pleased to endorse the candidacy of Steve Levin for New York City Council.

A remarkably dedicated and effective public servant, Steve Levin successfully helped create more affordable housing and support the clean-up of contaminated brownfields in Brooklyn. Prior to entering government, Steve Levin was a passionate and tireless community organizer who put his Ivy League education to use in serving others by battling the hazards of lead paint and predatory lending while fighting for New Yorkers’ quality of life. I know he will bring those same qualities to bear as a City Councilmember fighting for better public schools and early childhood education; more affordable housing; preserving neighborhoods, park and open space; and protecting our environment.

As a former Member of the City Council and as someone who represented Greenpoint and part of Williamsburg in the U.S. Congress, I am confident that Steve Levin will make an outstanding Councilman for the 33rd District. I am proud to support his candidacy.
